Gross gaming revenue across Danish gambling has increased through June thanks to the performance of the online casino segment, with the country subsequently remaining ahead on a year-on-year basis.

This has seen the nation’s gambling ecosystem track a 1.18 per cent overall drop year-on-year through the 31 day reporting period to DKK 513m (2020: DKK 507m), according to figures reported by the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden.

Contrasted to the previous month, revenue has dropped 13 per cent from DKK 590m, with each of the nation’s core divisions reporting revenue downfalls.

Online casino retained its place at the top of the tree courtesy of a slight 2.5 per cent year-on-year revenue rise to DKK 238m (2021: DKK 220m), however, this represents a 5.55 per cent monthly decrease from May’s DKK 252m (£29.04m).

Elsewhere, Denmark’s betting segment recorded a 1.91 per cent drop year-on-year to DKK 154m (2022: DKK 157m), with this figure down by a larger 26.31 per cent from the previous month’s DKK 209m (£24.09m).

Land-based casinos remained consistent year-on-year with revenue of DKK 30m (£3.45m), which is a slight decline month-on-month from DKK 31m (£3.57m).

In Denmark’s final reporting segment, that being gaming machines, revenue dropped nine per cent and 7.14 per cent YoY and MoM from DKK 100m (£11.52m) and DKK 98m (£11.29m) to June’s figure of DKK 91m (£10.48).

Through the month, online casino comprised 43.4 per cent of total GGR, ahead of betting’s 34.14 per cent, the 17.21 per cent of gaming machines and land-based casinos’ 5.25 per cent.

On a year-to-date basis, each reporting segment tracked an increase YoY as revenue through H1 closed at DKK 3.43bn (£395.29m), up 5.17 per cent when compared to the DKK 3.26bn (£375.7m) of 2022.

It is igaming that once again makes up the largest percentage of this figure via a 5.86 per cent uptick to DKK 1.49bn (2021: DKK 1.41bn), while betting dropped 3.25 per cent as of June 30, 2022, to finish up at DKK 1.16bn (2021: DKK 1.13bn).

Elsewhere, gaming machines shot up 6.32 per cent across the six month period to DKK 596m (2022: DKK 560m), while land-based casinos reported revenue of DKK 175m (£20.17m), up 8.2 per cent YOY from DKK 161m (£18.55m).

Furthermore, the DGA’s StopSpillet compulsive gambling helpline recorded 50 related conversations through the month, while the country’s ROFUS self-exclusion scheme counted 42,604 (2022: 38,921) registered individuals as of June 2023.

In addition, the DGA has also entered into a partnership with a tripartite of high-profile betting integrity organisations.

Sportradar – via its Sportradar Integrity Services division – the United Lotteries for Integrity in Sport and the International Betting Integrity Association, have all signed a formal cooperation agreement with the regulator.

The trio will alert the DGA if unusual betting partners on Danish sports events are detected, such as the potential of match-fixing. The three organisations monitor sports events to detect irregularities, such as ‘fluctuations in odds setting or effort in the bet.

Danish regulator: ROFUS plays important role in ensuring protection https://casinobeats.com/2023/03/30/danish-regulator-rofus-protection/ Thu, 30 Mar 2023 11:30:00 +0000 https://casinobeats.com/?p=80819 The Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, has hailed the “important role” that ROFUS plays in ensuring the protection of players who need a short or long-term break from gambling. The Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, has hailed the “important role” that ROFUS plays in ensuring the protection of players who need a short or long-term break from gambling.

In addition to also praising the tool as “useful and very meaningful,” the DGA revealed that player registrations have recently topped the 40,000 barrier.

Since being introduced in 2012, the number of sign-ups has increased every year, which the regulator said falls in line with the “partial liberalisation of the Danish gambling market”. A 3.53 per cent uptick was felt from 2022’s 38,921 to the current 40,296 that are currently registered.

Since January 1, 2020, Danish facing online gambling operators, as well as land-based casinos, are required to refer to ROFUS in their marketing of gambling products.

“Since 2016, we have worked intensely on improving the awareness of ROFUS”, explained Anders Dorph, director of the Danish Gambling Authority.

“Among other things, we have launched two large campaigns on TV and social media, which were very successful. Our most recent figures from 2021 show that 45 percent off all Danes know of ROFUS.

“I believe that our campaigns have contributed to raising the awareness of ROFUS among the Danish population. It is important to us that the Danes know that they can opt to self-exclude if they feel that their gambling activities have gotten out of control.”

Furthermore, the Danish authority also points to two consistent results that have been witnessed through the current 11 year lifespan of the ROFUS system.

The first of these is that 66 per cent of those registered, or a little over 26,500, opted for a permanent exclusion, while 76 per cent of the total figure are men (as of February 2023).

“It is essential to ensure a safe gambling market that those who need to self-exclude from gambling for a short while or a long-term period can do it easily and effectively,” added Dorph.

“That is why ROFUS is a success, and we are happy to be able to offer such an efficient tool for Danish players.”

With the assistance of front-end specialists Mad Men, B2B igaming tech provider EveryMatrix has launched Vinder Casino into the online Danish regulated market.

Targeting the regulated Danish market, the launch was made possible with the operational and management work of the Mad Men team, which has ensured that Vinder Casino benefits off all the native platform’s functionalities and will continue to support the team in its journey on the Danish market by using Design and UX/UI.

“Vinder Casino’s team approached us in the early stage of their brand when they were considering EveryMatrix as their platform provider,” noted Michel Groenendijk, director of Mad Men

“Thanks to our previous experience with EveryMatrix, and our extensive knowledge of its products, we were able to determine which of the company’s turnkey solutions would benefit Vinder Casino’s launch the most and assist by developing their modern front-end.”

With the Vinder Casino brand having launched at the end of 2021 on EveryMatrix’s turnkey platform, it includes the igaming integration and productivity platform, CasinoEngine – a cross-bonusing system, payments management module and a comprehensive player account management platform.

“Vinder Casino’s launch is the product of a successful partnership,” remarked Stian Hornsletten, CCO & co-founder of EveryMatrix. “We are more than happy to offer our modular platform to brands looking to have a great start in the online sphere.

“Our team, together with Mad Men, will make sure that Vinder Casino gets a head start on the highly competitive Danish market.”

Bo Flindt Jørgensen, CEO of Vinder Casino, concluded: “We are happy to be live with our partners and really look forward to expanding our market presence in Denmark. Every launch will bring unforeseen issues and challenges, and it is the combined effort from our partners that will determine our long-term success – we are pleased with the development and commitment from our partners, but also recognise that we need to optimise on all areas to earn a strong position on the market.

“We look forward to the journey with EveryMatrix and Mad Men.”

Online casino operator Videoslots has strengthened its igaming output on the Danish market, after expanding its ongoing collaboration with Malta-based software provider Nolimit City

Becoming the group’s second operator partner in Denmark, the country’s players will gain access to titles such as Deadwood, Punk Rocker, Tombstone and new introductions San Quentin xWays and East Coast vs West Coast.

Malcolm Mizzi, commercial director at Nolimit City, said of the enhanced agreement: “Videoslots and Nolimit City have enjoyed a strong partnership for over two years now.

“It’s a partnership that we’ve been very happy with so far and it’s exciting to see us both entering a new jurisdiction together, which for us also means a stronger foothold in the Danish Market, which we value deeply.”

The two parties initially debuted a partnership in 2018, and following what is lauded as “continued growth” Videoslots is to launch the Nolimit City suit across all operational regulated markets in the months to come.

William Ahlberg, head of casino at Videoslots, added: “Videoslots and Nolimit City has had a stellar partnership for almost two years now. We’re both happy and thrilled to enter the Danish market with our partner and will hopefully get to cut the ribbon on more markets together ahead.”

Last month, Videoslots called for “greater clarity to aid responsible operators like ourselves,” as the group responded to an injunction handed out by the Swedish Gambling Authority.

Acknowledging the injunction, and potential fine for non-compliance, that was issued by the Spelinspektionen, the operator asserted that it was “pleased that it confirms compliant implementation of the bonus, deposit and time limits put in place”.

However, it called the regulations “unreasonable and unjustifiable,” and maintained that “they are also completely counterproductive to their declared aim of player protection and push players into the arms of illegal operators”.

Each week, CasinoBeats breaks down the numbers behind some of the industry’s most interesting stories. Today we take a very global outlook, visiting Japan, Australia, Europe and the USA as we look at integrated resort regulation delays, huge acquisitions and national framework adaption.

18

Victoria has become the first Australian state to make headway into the National Consumer Protection Framework for Online Wagering, with several new rules set to be put in place to heighten consumer protection.

First established in November of last year, the framework is to see the progressive implementation of a suite of measures over an 18 month period, following uniformed agreements from Australia’s state governments.

Coming under the guidance of Daniel Andrews, the 48th Premier of Victoria, and coming into force in the state next week, online operators will have to adhere to strict requirements for betting account deposit limits, restrictions on direct marketing and a ban on perks that encourage consumers to continue betting.

It is said the new rules are to prohibit awarding vouchers as referral incentives, stop the awarding of free bets if a customer cannot subsequently withdraw the funds and will require customers to opt-in to receive direct marketing.

2020

A blow has been dealt to the progression of Japan’s proposed integrated resort developments, after it was revealed that the initial proposed date for the establishment of the country’s Casino Management Board is to be pushed back, reports Asia Gaming Brief.

The government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe revealed the delay recently, which could see the ruling party not take up the IR issue once again until early 2020, which also pushes back the issuance of further specific bidding regulations, with only three licenses to be initially up for grabs.

As a number of global casino resort organisations begin to deepen proposals to cement their place within the country, Abe cites concern of the Japanese public, and the still hostile opinions that still exist regarding the legalisation of casino gambling, as the primary reason for the delay.

The Casino Management Board was to be established under the IR Implementation Bill, consisting of five members and operating under the umbrella of the Cabinet Office.

It has previously been stated that they will oversee IR operations, possessing the power to suspend or terminate licenses should violations of law come to the fore.

€2m

EveryMatrix is to put its sole focus into operating as a software service supplier, after shedding its Jetbull B2C brand for €2m.

Agreeing the deal with Amgo Igaming, which counts five fully owned gaming brands as part of its stable, the deal consists of €1m in cash a further €1m in newly issued shares.

Beginning on July 1, 2019, Amgo is to receive the full ownership of Jetbull, with it said that the transition phase to operate and manage the brand has already begun.

Operating on the EveryMatrix white label platform, Jetbull is a brand that offers casino and sportsbook and boasts in excess of 600,000 registered customers.

Enjoying “substantial growth over the last 24 months,” Jetbull is to continue to be operated under EveryMatrix’s Maltese, UK and Danish licenses.

$1bn

Penn National Gaming and Vici Properties have completed the previously announced $1bn deal to acquire Detroit’s Greektown Casino Hotel from Jack Entertainment.

Taking its US footprint to 42 properties in 19 jurisdictions, Penn secured the operating assets for approximately $300m, which coupled with the real estate investment trust’s $700m purchase of the land and real estate assets.

Simultaneous with the closing of this transaction, Penn National entered into a triple-net lease agreement with Vici for an initial 15-year term for approximately $55.6m per annum, with four 5-year tenant renewal options included.

Casino games developer Synot Games has built upon recent Swedish and Danish market entries, by obtaining certification to make its debut into Portugal.

Granting the Malta headquartered content supplier access to the Portuguese igaming market through a variety of the country’s operators, it follows an influx of action in the market as the country comes under the spotlight.

Going live in 2017 and in its third year of regulation under the Portuguese Gambling Inspection and Regulation Service, it comes ahead of potential further expansion across south European markets for the firm, which it expects to undertake in the upcoming weeks and months.

Last year revenues in online gaming and betting in Portugal amounted to a €152.1m, marking significant growth compared to the previous year.

Ivan Kodaj, CEO at Synot Games, commented on the new market entry: “Portugal is another significant destination for Synot Games and marks our entry to the Iberian Peninsula. The certification underlines our commitment to further focus on expansion in regulated markets. We believe that our diverse portfolio will prove to be highly popular among Portuguese players.”

Added: “We have recently gained prestige through certification for Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Italy. The tangible land base feel of our ‘games for true players’ will speak break through in these regulated markets.”

In May of this year Portuguese online casino operator Casino Solverde welcomed content from online and mobile casino content provider iSoftBet as well as Novomatic’s interactive division, Greentube.

Furthermore, Casino games supplier Red Rake Gaming has continued to target expansion across the Portuguese market, with its latest aligning made alongside operator Casino Portugal.

Red Rake made its entry into the market in April, bringing its “best selection of games” to the nation following entry into partnership alongside “one of Portugal’s leading operators” bet.pt.

Following this the company made moves to solidify its footprint towards the end of last month, after entering into an agreement with European online gaming group Betclic, which enjoys a strong presence in the market.

Ebbe Groes, founder and CEO of EveryMatrix, said of the transaction: ”Some B2B companies have their own B2C brands competing with their B2B clients. This has always been against our strategy, and with this transaction, we now completely shut down own brands and we can focus exclusively on our role as a software service supplier for casino, sports, payments and platform.

“To sell our own brand Jetbull to Amgo is an important step for us to continue developing the market’s most competitive online gaming platform, and no longer focus on being an operator.

“Amgo has the right setup for operating multi-brands in different jurisdictions, and we are sure that we will see a huge increase in Jetbull’s reputation as a strong brand in regulated markets.”

Beginning on July 1, 2019, Amgo is to receive the full ownership of Jetbull, with it said that the transition phase to operate and manage the brand has already begun.

Viorel Stan, CEO of Jetbull, commented: “There is great chemistry between Amgo and the Jetbull organisation and we will do our best to secure a successful transition. This transition will ease Jetbull’s goal of becoming a top player in all regulated markets targeted, and continue the consistent YoY growth.

EveryMatrix will continue as the main technology provider, and we will make sure that Jetbull is supported with the newest innovations to keep the brand at the forefront of the industry.”

Operating on the EveryMatrix white label platform, Jetbull is a brand that offers casino and sportsbook and boasts in excess of 600,000 registered customers.

Enjoying “substantial growth over the last 24 months,” the brand is to continue to be operated under EveryMatrix’s Maltese, UK and Danish licenses.

Mads Jørgensen, board member and director of Amgo, added: “We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with EveryMatrix, and this agreement will take our partnership to the next level. We are very satisfied with this agreement, and have set the strategy and performance targets to generate shareholder value.”
