As a number of new igaming titles grace the CasinoBeats inbox, sit back and get to grips with a select few new slot games in one handy bite-size chunk.

Romans: Legions of Gold – Spearhead Studios

Spearhead Studios is channelling Ancient Rome for its latest slot release, with Romans – Legions of Gold using a ‘ways’ mechanic and varying reel sizes, which offers players up to 20,160 ways to win.

The scatters trigger the free spins in which the two highest-paying symbols progressively become wilds on each reel at a time. Players who re-trigger free spins are promised a glorious win as impressive as the armies of Rome.

“Romans – Legion of Gold is the third title of the spring, after the sequel to our blockbuster Lara Jones is Cleopatra II and Wild Gold.

“I am positive that players will enjoy the many features we have created for their entertainment. While we continue to produce high-quality slots, we are also working on other types of games, such as poker and bingo, which are set to be released this year. Overall, 2021 is packed with fantastic new games.” – Kevin Corti, game development director at Spearhead Studios.

Fire Toad – Play’n Go

Fire Toad is a five-reel, 1,024-payline video slot which includes five high-paying toad symbols along with a free spins round, sees the online casino developer uncover a rare creature which becomes more powerful as it grows.

During the base game, the firefly is the scatter symbol, which also functions as a wild, whilst substituting for all symbols.

Furthermore, the game comes with five different sized toad, and four Hawaiian-themed card suit, symbols. The biggest is the highest paying symbol, while the smallest tadpole is the least expensive.

If the player lands two scatters on the reels, a toad symbol is chosen at random, and all smaller toads will upgrade to the chosen symbol. Moreover, three scatters award nine free spins, with five providing the player with 15.

The free spins begin with the smallest toad which has already upgraded by one size. The round can be retriggered an unlimited number of times. During the round, on each retrigger, the smallest available toad symbol will upgrade one size until all toads are the biggest size.

“Creativity is a lifeblood of entertainment. Developing new ideas and introducing new concepts to players keeps them engaged and interested in what you’re going to do next.

“Allowing people to be creative also creates a more positive and productive atmosphere, and that leads to great results.” – Johan Törnqvist, CEO of Play’n Go.

Mechanical Clover – BGaming

BGaming takes on the steampunk world in Mechanical Clover, a 3×3 video slot which includes a respin bonus and risk game to aid players in attempting win big.

During the base game, wild symbols substitute for any symbol in a line to complete a winning combination. The wild can drop on the central reel only, with the wild also triggering the respin Bonus.

Once triggered, 27 paylines become available with the feature providing one to six respins, increasing multiplier with every new respin. Symbols that complete winning combinations during the bonus stay on the reels until the end of the free spins series. The game also comes with a risk game which can be activated on any win.

“Thinking of the idea for a new slot, we were inspired by Mechanical Orange, the game that was released two years ago.

“It was the first game in the steampunk style in our lineup and it was definitely worth having a new breath. So, we’ve made the brand’s new slot called Mechanical Clover. The steampunk style is very interesting for its great details.

“Thinking over the elements of the game, we immediately came up with interesting mechanics for animations!” – Aleksey Ulanov, art director at BGaming.

Legendary Sumo – Endorphina

Join an elite division of sumo wrestlers and experience the ancient Japanese sporting tradition in Endorphina’s latest slot.

Legendary Sumo, a five-reel, three-row video slot, offers players 21-paylines along with a free games mode and multipliers.

If the player lands three or more scatter symbols on the reels, they will trigger the free games mode. Yet, if luck is on their side, landing five scatters will award 50 free spins.

After each, a winning sumo fighters team is determined. The player will be victorious once their symbol covers the majority of the reels. Each fighter in the winning team is awarded with a golden trophy, transforming them into a joker.

During the next spin, any fighters stopping in the same position as the trophy inherits the trophy and the joker’s functions.

Additionally, the title comes with a risk game which allows players to double their outcome on any bet win, which can be triggered up to 10 times.

It’s certainly been a busy week for slot launches, with a number of new entrants gracing the CasinoBeats inbox. So, sit back and get to grips with a select few in one handy bite-size chunk.

Oryx Gaming – Battle Dwarf

Developed by Oryx’s remote gaming server brands Golden Hero and JTG studios, Battle Dwarf is the second title in the supplier’s catalogue that brings the Japanese pachislot experience to Europe, combining a 3-reel, 5 fixed-payline with an arcade-style title.

Packaged in a theme that takes players deep into the mines to dig for breath-taking jewels and fight against fierce dragons, the firm stresses that the new introduction comes packed with a number features that have proved popular in Asia and particularly the Japanese market.

Matevz Mazij, managing director of Oryx Gaming, said of the new game: “The release of Battle Dwarf cements our position as a trailblazer in the gaming industry, as it is only through our content that European players can enjoy the thrill of the pachislot gaming experience.

“Battle Dwarf offers our partners an exciting concept that will capitalise on the increasing popularity of Japanese games in Western markets, and we are certain its performance will be outstanding across the board.”

Play’n Go – Inferno Joker/3 Hand Casino Hold’em

Releasing two new titles on the same day, the gaming content supplier has unveiled a brand new slot titled Inferno Joker alongside a table poker game, 3 Hand Casino Hold’em.

Inferno Joker is a 5×3 grid slot featuring classic slot symbols including gold bars, lucky 7’s, fruits and more, providing a blend between classic slot gaming and modern designs and features.

3 Hand Casino Hold’em follows the gameplay of poker in its traditional form but allows the player to play three hands at the table simultaneously, tripling their chances of achieving winning hands.

Johan Törnqvist, CEO of Play’n Go, stated: “We are well-known for our slot prowess, and Inferno Joker is a strong addition to our extensive portfolio.

“With the release of 3-Hand Casino Hold’em we are highlighting, not only the variety of entertainment that we have to offer but also showing that we are bringing the same creativity and innovation that we bring to our slot to our table games as well.

“We are entering the final throes of 2019, it’s important for us to finish just as strongly as we started and with what we have planned, that’s exactly what we’ll do.”

Kalamba Games – Zombie Queen

With big wins buried in a haunted graveyard, in the 6×4, 50 payline slot, walking multiplier wilds, a new feature in the supplier’s cabinet, enters reels during the base game to maintain player interest and build win anticipation.

Kalamba’s monetisation boosting HyperBonus and HyperBet also feature, which it states offer an even greater thrill for players by allowing them to buy into the free spin round or adjust the value of the wild multipliers in the reels.

After any win sequence, the Zombie Queen appears on the screen offering more chances to win payouts of up to 1930x the original bet.

“The Zombie Queen brings the fun filled graveyard theme in this spooky slot to life and we’re certain her character will be an instant hit with players,” noted Alex Cohen, COO and co-founder of Kalamba Games.

“The new walking multiplier wilds in Zombie Queen, coupled with our proven signature features, make this a highly engaging title for any portfolio, offering multiple levels of anticipation and excitement that boosts operator revenues with strong player retention rates.”

NetEnt – Twin Happiness

Striving to add an Asian twist to a tried and tested NetEnt slot, the 5-reel, 3-row entry sees at least two of the reels synchronised and linked together.

During the spin the reels can expand to become triplet, quadruplet or even quintuplet reels on 243 ways pay configuration. Twin Happiness also includes Wild symbols, which appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and substitute for all symbols.

“As our first authentically designed Asian slot, we are really happy with the results. The linked reel mechanics remain the core of this title, but the Asian-style graphics and sounds will appeal to old and new slot fans alike. We’re expecting it to be a go-to game for many players.” said Bryan Upton, NetEnt director of games.

Evoplay Entertainment – Reign of Dragons

Designed to be HTML5 mobile-perfect for handheld gaming, Reign of Dragons takes players into a universe of dragons and their masters – four charming ladies, each representing the elements of fire, air, water and earth.

The 5-reel, 20-payline slot’s big wins are triggered when the earth’s elements combine, unleashing the true power of the Reign of Dragons gameplay.

Alex Levchenko, CEO of Evoplay Entertainment, commented: “We’re delighted to be launching our most magical story yet! An enchanting soundtrack combined with our latest in graphics create an atmosphere of total immersion, so lean back, relax and enjoy the story play out on-screen while spinning to your heart’s content.”

South Korean police say they will crack down on hold ‘em pubs, gambling “experience” venues that secretly house illegal casinos.

The media outlet Newsis reported that the National Police Agency’s investigation department has announced the start of an “intensive crackdown” on illegal gambling activities at hold ‘em pubs and other establishments.

The department says the operation began on May 1 and will wrap up on August 31. The police force ran similar drives in 2023 and 2024.

Hold ‘em Pubs: South Korean Crackdown Begins

Thus far, the crackdowns have seen officers charge 4,843 people with gambling or operating illegal gambling establishments.

During the drives, investigators also confiscated cash and other assets worth approximately 15 billion won ($10.77 million).

The nation is home to thousands of hold ‘em pubs that offer a casino-like experience – supposedly without involving “real-money” betting.

Most of these pubs charge entrance fees and distribute chips for Texas hold ‘em card game tournaments, which typically last one to two hours.

However, police officers think many of these pubs secretly offer patrons the chance to wager real money on card games.

In March this year, police raided a hold ‘em pub in Seoul that police say doubled as an underground gambling den. Officers think the den’s owners made over $5 million in profits from its patrons.

Late last year, police also shut down a nationwide network of hold ‘em pubs that provided a front for illegal gambling games.

Strict Gambling Rules in Force

South Korean law prohibits citizens from participating in all forms of gambling outside a horseracing track near Seoul and a licensed casino in Gangwon Province.

Police think some hold ‘em pub operators use sophisticated methods and legal loopholes to secretly allow their patrons to place real wagers on games.

However, recent revisions to the Tourism Promotion Act have granted police new powers to punish “casino-like” activities at holdem pubs.

Officers also said that many illegal gambling den operators use high levels of security. They say that owners now use closed-circuit television monitoring systems and membership programs to hide their activities from police investigators.

The National Police Agency said it will pay citizens cash rewards if they come forward with tip-offs. A spokesperson said the police would offer up to 5 million won ($3,588) in return for information that leads to an arrest.

The spokesperson added: “Gamblers who turn themselves in may also escape further punishment. We encourage the public to actively report illegal activities.”

In April, South Korean police charged 19 people with operating a gambling site and a network of related offline casinos. Officers think the group’s operations generated around $11 million.

The inaugural Texas Hold’em World Poker Tour is heading to Thailand after the government penned a partnership with the WPT.

Sorawong Tienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, and Sorawong Thienthong, the Director of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), announced a strategic collaboration with the World Poker Tour (WPT) and Thailand RF Tourism and Sports Competition Club Co., Ltd.

How WPT Prime Thailand Could Shape the Local Poker Scene

The WPT announcement noted that “the WPT Prime Thailand would not be a one-time event, but a strategic move to establish Thailand as a global center for mind sports.”

The WPT explained that plans are underway to host the tournament seasonally. The collaboration will start with a single event per season and could scale to 3-4 events annually.

This is a significant move for Thailand, reflecting the country’s efforts to adopt a new, pro-gambling stance and move forward with casino legalization.

Casino Legislation Still in Limbo Amid Poker Expansion

The casino-entertainment complex bill is pending discussion after being postponed this session. The next session will begin on July 2.

Industry analysts suggest that parliament is unlikely to pass the bill, given the vocal opposition from within the Bhunjaithai Party—the second largest political party in the government coalition. Hopes remain that the party’s Secretary-General, Chaichanok Chidchob, ’s opposition to the bill does not reflect the party’s stance.

Keta Ozolina, Vice President of WPT—Tour and Business Development, emphasized the global recognition of Texas Hold’em and its potential for boosting tourism within the region. Ozolina stated: “The economic impact of the World Poker Tour is proven globally, and Thailand is the perfect place to bring this iconic tournament.”

To achieve this, astute legislation and a competitive tax rate will be vital in tackling illegal gambling and stopping its growth, while directing players toward legal, licensed providers.

Thailand is also located in an increasingly competitive gaming environment. Southeast Asia has seen several regions embrace the licensed gambling industry. Singapore and Macau are among the strongest in this region’s casino sector.

Qualifying Texas Hold’em as a sports activity is a significant step in the right direction. The Thai government did not stop there, as an interdepartmental task force has been established to support the event.

As part of the collaboration, WPT will bring its global expertise in poker to the country through training locals and developing talent to meet the sector’s growing demand.

“We continue to work internally and with online poker operators to get the shared liquidity market up sometime in April,” Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Communications Director Doug Harbach said. “The agreement would, of course, be signed prior to that launch.”

For Pennsylvania — the United States’ fifth-most populous state — joining MSIGA would ostensibly mean higher player and prize pools for participants.

Keystone State a Big Player in iGaming

Five operators currently offer online poker in Pennsylvania: BetMGM, BetRivers, Borgata, Pokerstars, and WSOP.com.

With a population of approximately 13 million people, Pennsylvania has separated itself as one of the most lucrative markets in the US for regulated iGaming. The Keystone State generated $2.1 billion in revenue in 2024, a 25.25% increase from 2023’s total of $1.7 billion.

That is nearly on par with New Jersey and Michigan, which reported revenue of $2.39 billion and $2.2 billion last year, respectively. Only four other states have legal iGaming: Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

Poker Could Be Key Economic Driver in Pennsylvania

Shapiro’s stance on the MSIGA is no secret. The Pennsylvania governor expressed his support last October in a letter to the PGCB, requesting that they “begin the process of negotiating the Commonwealth’s entrance into the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement.”

Unsurprisingly, Shapiro cited finances as a key factor.

“Pennsylvania should capitalize on our status as a leader in legalized gaming, and join this compact, which would bring in additional revenue for the Commonwealth and allow players more gaming options,” he said. “My administration is prepared to do our part to help Pennsylvania compete in the gaming sector and continue to build a strong economy that works for everyone.”

For now, Pennsylvanians can only play online poker against other state residents. This has been the case since online poker was legalized statewide in 2017.

With larger player pools, tournament prize money will also likely increase.

Crypto-first poker site CoinPoker has announced the launch of CoinMasters, offering competitors over $250,000 in prizes, including a $100,000 poker career package.

The CoinMasters format will see players qualify for the Championship Final Table through various unique means. Each time a player wins a daily tournament, they will earn cash as well as a gold or silver coin, depending on the day of the week.

If a user collects all seven unique coins, they will automatically secure a place at the Final Table, where the winner will be awarded the grand prize.

The company has also stated that players who earn at least one coin will have the chance to win additional cash prizes through “Hall of Fame Freerolls,” which offer a further $100,000 in prize money.

Multiple ways to qualify: Collector, Luckbox, Creator

CoinMasters offers multiple ways to qualify for the Championship Final Table, ensuring that everyone has a shot at the top prize:

  • The Collector: Be one of the first five players to collect all seven unique coins and earn a guaranteed $10,000 cash prize. Duplicate coins can be traded to complete a collection, and each coin will remain a “tangible trophy” of a player’s achievements.
  • The Luckbox: Every coin earned counts as an entry into a random draw for a “golden ticket” to earn a spot at the Final Table.
  • The Creator: Content creators have the opportunity to shine by producing engaging poker-related content while tagging CoinPoker. The creator deemed most talented by CoinPoker will earn the title of “CoinPoker Creator Champion” and also secure a seat.

The CoinMasters tournament was developed in collaboration with well-known poker professionals such as Bencb, Patrick Leonard, and Mario Mosböck.

Players are invited to compete and “reignite the poker dream” with a chance of scooping the tournament series’ top prize, a package that includes $50,000 in cash, a $30,000 sponsorship deal, a $10,000 WSOP Main Event entry, a $10,000 bonus, private coaching and a digital CoinPoker avatar upgrade.

Players begin the qualification process through daily CoinMasters tournaments. Silver coins are awarded to winners from Monday through Saturday, while a higher-value gold coin is awarded during the Sunday event. Entry fees for these tournaments range from $25 to $150.

Secondary Prize Pools

CoinPoker’s “Hall of Fame Freeroll” series has varying entrance criteria based on coins collected:

  • One coin: Entry into a $50,000 freeroll
  • Two coins: Entry into a $30,000 freeroll
  • Three or more coins: Entry into a $20,000 freeroll

Countdown Mechanism and Coaching Incentives

Once the first player collects all seven coins, a two-month countdown begins. Alternatively, the countdown ends early if five players complete their collections first. CoinPoker ambassadors will coach final table participants, with the earliest qualifiers receiving the most training time and first pick of available coaches.

CoinPoker users can also take advantage of a plethora of other options. These include a 150% welcome bonus (up to $2,000), 33% rakeback, and leaderboards for MTTs and cash games. The platform recently introduced fiat deposit support in 22 countries and offers instant crypto-based transactions.

PokerMatch.UA has been given the green light to organise and operate online poker games in Ukraine after receiving a licence from the country’s Gambling and Lotteries Regulation Commission.

The new licence, which the company believes will help “create a wholesome community around PokerMatch Ukraine”, follows on from a decision #386 made by the regulator on 25 June.

“The license is a big and important step for the entire company. PokerMatch will continue to popularise and develop sports poker in Ukraine and make players happy,” stated Victor Kyrychenko, CEO of the PokerMatch.UA.

According to Kyrychenko, gaining a licence to organise and operate online poker games will help create a social community among poker players.

He added: “Now there are great resources and platforms to bring people together according to their interests. Social networks, forums, meetings with players in a ‘live’ format – all this strengthens the trust users have in the company and, of course, gives the necessary feedback on the implemented projects and ideas for future plans.”

PokerMatch.UA outlined its plans to organise live series in Ukraine, with plans to place a focus upon the sports component of poker.

A spokesperson for PokerMatch.UA said: “We want to take a leading position in the Ukrainian market in the first year after legalisation. We are sure that with our arsenal of marketing tools, experience and understanding of poker player psychology, we will succeed.

“We will popularise sports poker, encouraging more and more Ukrainians to enter the world of this beautiful game.”
